Most home ventilation systems will eventually accumulate a good deal of dust in the air ducts over time. When the dust builds up, it will be become necessary to have the ducts properly cleaned by a professional in the field.
Some types of ducts are easier to clean than others. Metal air ducts often clean out very well as do flexible ducts. However, ducts made from fiberboard are difficult to clean.
No matter what type of duct work a home has, sometimes replacement and new duct installation is necessary. If the air ducts are extremely dirty, replacement is preferred over cleaning.
Mold is another important factor when considering duct replacement. Condensation in the air ducts can lead to the formation of mold. Moldy ducts should be replaced as soon as possible. Mold in the home or work environment can lead to a host of serious health complications.
Finally, new duct installation is necessary if the old duct work has become very worn and the seals are coming loose. If there is significant damage to the air ducts, new ducts will be needed.
